Frodo still bears the weight of the One Ring with only Sam at his side. They are pursued by the mysterious Gollum who, finally captured by the two Hobbits, agrees to lead them to Mordor if they will release him.

This challenge offers two routes: 95mi/153km (recommended for running and walking) and 668mi/1075km (recommended for cycling).

Each time you complete a distance-based exercise such as running, walking, cycling, swimming, etc., you advance along the map of Middle-earth.

Celebrate your achievements with a stunning medal inspired by the architecture of Barad-dûr, Isengard and the Palantír. The Eye of Sauron is ever watchful, while on the back Galadriel’s mirror reveals the scouring of Hobbiton should the Ring-bearer falter.

Track your progress

You can track all your miles (or kilometers) across Middle-earth directly in our mobile iOS and Android apps.

You can enter an activity into the app manually by entering its distance or by syncing your activities from your favorite fitness tracker or smartwatch.

Experience the journey with Stories and Postcards

As you progress through the challenge, you'll unlock Postcards and Stories when you reach certain milestones.

The Stories are inspired by the narrative of the film trilogy with handpicked images and captions that add rich contextual information.

Each Postcard comes with challenge-specific artwork designs and exciting information highlighting key locations.

Virtually Travel from The Shire to Mordor

To make the story that much more immersive, we designed the Middle-earth map from scratch based on THE LORD OF THE RINGS film trilogy.

Every time you add a workout, you advance on your way to Mordor.

Watching your virtual avatar move from one side of the world to another will make your fitness progress that much more tangible.

Pick a cause

We will plant a tree or stop 10 plastic items from polluting the environment for every 20% of each challenge you complete.

There's no extra work or cost for you — just make sure you keep exercising!

By the end of each challenge, you will have planted 5 trees or have stopped 50 plastic items from reaching the environment. Imagine what we can achieve as a community!

So far, we have planted 18.1M trees and stopped 76.6M plastic items from polluting the planet.

The quest is to bring the One Ring to Mordor and destroy it in the fires of Mount Doom.

Each of the five Virtual Challenges rewards you with an amazing medal, based on the route traveled by Frodo and Sam.

The eight challenges follow the storylines of Frodo and Aragorn in their quest to protect Middle-earth from Sauron's wrath!

Start with The Shire challenge and discover the One Ring, hidden inside the medal and entrusted to your care — now it’s up to you to throw it into the depths of Mount Doom for the sake of all in Middle-earth.

Follow Aragorn in his journey to aid Frodo and fulfill his destiny. Witness as he becomes the King of Gondor and peace is restored once again in Middle-earth.

You can only arrive at Mount Doom by having the courage to complete each of the five challenges in sequential order. Only those with the determination and bravery to see the journey through to its end will be able to claim the final medal.
