The LORD OF THE RINGS Virtual Challenges are HERE!
The West Coast Trail, part of the area colloquially known as “The Graveyard of the Pacific” and originally called “The Dominion Lifesaving Trail” is a backpacking trail that follows the southwestern edge of Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada. Rich in raw natural beauty, human history, and wildlife, this trail is as exhilaratingly beautiful as it is treacherous.
It was first built in 1907 to help rescue survivors who were shipwrecked along the coast. The treacherous nature of the waters in the area, including unpredictable weather conditions and dangerous shorelines, have led to the destruction of thousands of ships and gave the area its ghastly name. Currently, the West Coast Trail is considered one of the top hikes in the world and offers a worthy challenge that can bring even experienced hikers to their knees. Only around 6000 backpackers manage to complete the trail every year.
