STAR TREKâ„¢ Challenges are now live!
El Camino Real, often translated as the King’s Highway, is a 600 mile (965 km) road connecting the 21 Spanish missions to California, from San Diego to Sonoma.
El Camino Real dates back from 1598 and it was California’s first highway, connecting 21 missions.
The road served many purposes — one project was converting American Indians to Christianity, but the trails were also a principal communication and commerce avenue, with lots of goods and information being exchanged.
Known as a timeless route of both trade and cultural exchange, El Camino Real is well recognized in the United States and Mexico.
