The Lycian Way is the first long-distance trekking route established in Turkey. It takes its name from Lycia, the historical name of the Teke Peninsula, on the southern coast of Turkey. The Lycian Way follows the coast of this peninsula, from Fethiye in the east to Antalya in the West. It comprises mainly of old Roman roads, made of dirt and stone, joined together by footpaths and mule trails.
The architect of the Lycian Way is Kate Clow, a British historian living in Turkey. She completed her work researching and marking the road in 1999, in order to bring to light and to protect the old historical roads in the area. The Lycian Way offers a varied landscape, mixing rocky coast with pine, juniper, and cedar forests and alternating old ruins with bustling villages and modern beaches.
