The Trans-Canada Highway is the main highway of Canada and the world’s longest national road. It traverses Canada from the east to the west across each of its 10 provinces and provides a continuous link between the Atlantic and the Pacific.
The construction of the Trans-Canada Highway began in 1949 with its authorization through the Trans-Canada Highway Act and was officially inaugurated 13 years later, in 1962. The entire paved length of the Trans-Canada Highway is currently about 12,800 kilometers.
